Closing In On Opening 2025
It is June 2nd and we are fast approaching opening time for nectarines. We have 50 nectarine trees of two varieties, Bowden and Anmore. If I remember correctly the Bowden nectarines are yellow and the Anmore are white.
Approximately 48 of the trees are be producing fruit and they are starting to look good. I don’t have any photos at the moment but will include one when I send the next email out which will probably be between the 10th and the 15th June.
I have changed my spray regimen to milder pesticides but it is always wise to wash fruit before eating it so please bear that in mind when you come to pick your own.
We have been getting some new signs made so that we are easy to locate on Yokley and also to notify you when you drive by whether we are open or closed and what fruit is available.
This is an exciting time for us as it is our first real harvest. The 50 nectarines and the first 150 peach trees should be in full production next year, 2026. The remaining 540 peach trees will be in full production in 2 years but they do have a decent amount of fruit this year.
The majority of the peaches this year are Contender which are free stone, yellow, my favourite, with white China Pearl, also free stone. We also have 50 Flaming Fury trees but they will not be in production until next year and full production is 3 years away.
We also have 50 Moorpark Apricots and are hoping they will come into production beginning next year, but it could be another 2 years.
We are still working on our sales price but we are going be around the $3.00/lb mark as that seems to be competitive.
