Gem squash cut open

Gem Squash Availability

Our gem squash have been slow to produce this year, and not in great quantities. We are not exactly sure why this is the case but suspect it is because we had a late frost and therefore we were delayed in planting out.

This year we also tried some weed suppressor fabric and planted the seedlings in holes cut in the landscaping fabric. This appears to have had a negative impact on the growth rate and strength of the vines.

We do see some squash and, as we know they will produce fruit late into the fall, will keep everyone updated, here on the web site as to availability.

If you would like to be kept up to date via email, please go to our newsletter subscription page and sign up. If you want to be notified about the availability of anything other than peaches and nectarines you must select that product on the signup page.

Thank you and God bless.

Gem squash is a winter squash that is found in South Africa, among other places, and grows round and firm to the size of a baseball or larger. It has a texture similar to that of a spaghetti squash but is sweeter and not as coarse. To prepare, simply cut the squash in half, sometimes that is easier said than done, and remove the seeds with a spoon. Steamed or microwaved, add a bit of butter and salt and pepper and eat everything, including the skin if you cooked it long enough !
